Welcome your guests with a thoughtful guest room
Make sure the guest bedroom is a delightful place for your guests.
- Make sure the bed is as comfortable and well appointed as that in the master bedroom — not outfitted with cast-off mattress, pillows and linens.
- Avoid the cell-like look by furnishing the room and accessorizing it as if it were any other room in the house.
- Tuck a comfortable chair and small table in a corner for reading or letter writing.
- Keep most, or at least a good section of the closest empty to receive guest luggage, shoes and hanging clothes.
- The space can also double as the place for storing a spare ironing board and iron for guest use — perhaps even a dorm-sized fridge for keeping bottled water, soft drinks and snacks.
- Outfit the room with a few homelike conveniences such as a full-length mirror, telephone, television, well stocked magazine rack.
- Keep the room supplied with some of the personal items most guests need but may have forgotten to pack:
- toothpaste
- toothbrush
- comb
- razor
- aspirin
- shampoo
- mouthwash
